LaVonne Nelson, 77, Detroit Lakes, Mn, died Saturday, April 27 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 3 at the Congregational Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in Dumont, Minnesota.
Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.
LaVonne Nelson was born November 1, 1935 in Graceville, MN to Walter and Elsie (Haas) Church. She was raised and educated in Dumont, MN, moving to Yankton, SD at age 18 where she worked at the state hospital. She moved to Fargo, ND and was united in marriage to Melvin Nelson, March 22, 1977 in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Fargo where LaVonne worked for the Fargo Cleaners and for several motels in the Fargo area. In 1985, they moved to Perham, MN and later to Detroit Lakes. They traveled to and operated flea markets for a number of years, their favorites being in Battle Lake, Shady Hollow, Fargo and Wadena. Melvin died in 1998.
Lavonne was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliaries, and the Eagles. She loved playing BINGO, skyping with her friend in England, attending and selling at flea markets and the renovated bus that she and Melvin took to the flea markets.
Survivors include four step-children: David Nelson of Perham, MN, Candy Nelson of Perham, MN, Audrey Nelson of Fargo, ND and William Nelson of Canada. 11 step-grandchildren, her special friends: Bernice (Ken Lupelow) Lamb of International Falls, MN, Richard (Kristy) Briggs of Red Wing, MN, Crystal Lamb of Alexandria, MN, Christina (LeRoy) Kleimola in England and Chris Lamb of Minot, ND; three nephews: Lowell, Willard and Gerald Peickert.
