Daniel "Dan" Mark Kuehne was born on September 29, 1947, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, to Marcus August Friedrich Kuehne and Muriel Faye Braa. After several moves during his childhood, the family eventually settled near Vergas, Minnesota, where Dan graduated from Frazee-Vergas High School.

Following graduation, Dan enlisted in the United States Navy. After completing basic training, he was fortunate to be stationed on the Big Island of Hawaii from 1965 to 1967. He was later deployed to Vietnam and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1969. Following active duty, Dan continued his military career in both the Naval Reserve and the National Guard, retiring after a total of 23 years of service.

Dan's commitment to others continued long after his military career ended. He was a devoted and active member of the American Legion and the Color Guard, spending countless hours honoring fellow veterans through military funeral services and the traditional 21-gun salute. Supporting and remembering those who served was a responsibility he carried with great pride.

In 1969, while working briefly at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Dan met Diane Leegard. The two were married on May 29, 1971, and built a life together centered on faith, family, and community. They welcomed two sons, Brian and Brent, who remained a constant source of pride and joy throughout Dan's life.

Following his military service, Dan began a long career as an operations technician with Minnesota Energy in Detroit Lakes, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2010.

Dan was deeply involved in his community. Whether serving breakfasts at the American Legion, helping with church events, participating in veterans' ceremonies, baiting hooks for Let's Go Fishing, or simply lending a hand wherever needed, he was always willing to help others. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and genuine concern for those around him.

Above all, Dan loved his family. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and was a faithful supporter of their many activities, especially swimming and hockey. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on from the sidelines.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his sons, Brian (Kristi) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Brent (Bobbi) of West Fargo, North Dakota; and his beloved grandchildren, Logan, Auguste, Lincoln, and Blake. He is also survived by his stepmother, Mildred; and his siblings, Sandi Hove, Karen (Jim) Hanson, Sharon Hanson, Marcy (Larry) Anderson, Mike (Diane) Kuehne, Randy (Virginia) Kuehne, Renee Shepherd, Keith Kuehne, Jody Kuehne, and Lori (Randy) Borgen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Muriel Kuehne; his brother, Roy Kuehne; and his sisters, Gail and Christy.

Those who knew Dan will remember his infectious laugh, his colorful shirts, and his lifelong love of the Beach Boys. More importantly, they will remember a man who lived a life of generosity, kindness, and quiet devotion to others. His warmth touched countless lives, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
