John Arthur Lofberg passed away in Detroit Lakes on March 31, 2026 peacefully with his family and loved ones around him.
Born on July 22, 1968, in Park Rapids, Minnesota, John was the son of Kathy Dickson and the late Neil Lofberg. He was also preceded in death by John Dickson (Stepfather); John and Thelma Johanneson (grandparents); Arthur and Eileen Lofberg (grandparents). John grew up rooted in family, tradition, and a strong sense of community.
John was a graduate of Wayland Academy, where he formed several lifelong friendships that remained meaningful throughout his life. He went on to graduate from Arizona State University.
John was a proud third-generation business owner of Central Market in Detroit Lakes, continuing a family legacy of 55 years. His work was more than a business—it was a commitment to the communities he served. He believed deeply in supporting the local community and building relationships.
Beyond his professional life, John had a deep appreciation for the simple and meaningful things. He had a love for art, music, and gardening. Like many in his family, Jimmy Buffet ballads were the soundtrack to his life. John loved being on water. From his childhood in Green Lake, Wisconsin, and adulthood in Detroit Lakes - lake life was in his DNA. He had a rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life, forming genuine friendships wherever he went. His openness, warmth, and curiosity about others created lasting bonds that spanned backgrounds, generations, and communities.
John is survived by his mother, Kathy Dickson; his sister, Desiree Brush; his nephew, Jake Brush; and his niece, Savannah Knauer. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. John will be remembered for his generosity, his quiet strength, and his unwavering belief in community and connection. His legacy lives on not only through his family, but also through the many lives he touched in the towns he called home.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Memorial service details will be shared with family and friends in the coming days.
In lieu of flowers, John’s love for animals and caring spirit can be honored through a donation to one of our local animal shelters. Links are provided below for those who wish to contribute, including the opportunity to sponsor a kennel in his memory.
