Julie Hendrickson, 72, of Audubon MN, died peacefully Monday April 27, 2026, at Frazee Care Center.
Julie Harriet Hendrickson was born January 18, 1954, to Kermit and Charlotte (Anderson) Hendrickson, on a cold winter day—40 degrees below zero. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Lake Park, graduating with the Class of 1972. Julie was active in band and choir and took piano lessons for many years from Mrs. Berg.
After graduating from high school, she worked as a waitress at the Shell Café in Audubon and the Audubon Supper Club for a year. She then attended college at MSU and later went on to study at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, for Respiratory Therapy, where she began her career in the Respiratory Therapy Department. Julie also spent two years working at St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, before returning to St. Luke’s Hospital (now known as Sanford Hospital), where she worked for 42 years before retiring in 2016. Julie made many long-lasting friendships with her coworkers over the many joyful years she spent there.
Julie returned to school at Concordia College, where she earned her master’s degree in music, graduating in 1982. She shared her gift by teaching piano and voice to several nieces and nephews, as well as to many young students over the years. Julie found true joy in teaching, and the connections she formed with her students became lasting and meaningful.
She was also an active member of the choir and bell choir at Lake Park Lutheran Church, where her voice was a familiar and cherished presence. Julie sang at many weddings and special events, offering her music in moments that mattered most. She had a truly beautiful voice, one that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to hear it.
On January 23, 1999, Julie married Randy Boyer at their home in Audubon, Minnesota. Julie loved taking photos and videos, doing crafts, painting on canvas, and cross-stitching. She had a deep love for those around her, and gatherings like family reunions and class reunions truly meant the world to her. Julie also cherished the time she spent attending concerts with her sisters. Her favorite was seeing Paul McCartney, as she always held a special place in her heart for the music of The Beatles—songs that no doubt became part of the soundtrack of her life.
Julie also enjoyed traveling and made her way too many special places over the years, including the Bahamas, Florida, the Hawaiian Islands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tacoma, Washington.
She loved watching the Minnesota Vikings play and enjoyed relaxing with shows like The Golden Girls and anything on the Hallmark Channel—especially if it featured cute guys. Julie also had a soft spot for her stuffed animals and the Peanuts comics, with Snoopy always holding a special place as her favorite.
Julie dearly loved her companion-soul dog, Alice, and was heartbroken when she passed away in 2016. In time, she welcomed Ringo into her life, and he quickly became so deeply loved and a comforting presence in her life.
In June of 2021, Julie was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s. Randy lovingly cared for her at home for as long as he could, until a fall, resulting in a broken ankle, made it necessary for her to move to the Frazee Care Center in June of 2025.
While there, Julie formed meaningful connections with both the staff and fellow residents. She was truly cherished by those around her, and she returned that kindness with warmth and grace. Her beautiful smile had a way of brightening the day for everyone she met.
Above all, Julie held a deep and enduring love for her family. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Randy, Her dog Ringo. Three brothers Ronald (Mary) Lake Park, MN. Darwin (Cindy) of Frazee, MN. Kevin (Mel) of Lake Park, MN. One sister Darla (Ken) Maves Frazee, MN and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Owen Hendrickson, Duane (Lars) Hendrickson and a sister Ilo Hendrickson, along with her beloved dog Alice.
Julie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Frazee Care Center for the compassionate care they gave her. The kindness and comfort you provided meant so much and will always be remembered. Thank you.
