Roy (Roy, Roy, or Little Roy) Oscar Lattie Jr., age 62, of White Earth, Minnesota, passed away on May 16, 2026, at Heather’s House Hospice in Fargo, North Dakota.
Roy was born in Aberdeen, Washington, on July 7, 1963, to Roy Oscar Lattie Sr. and Harriet Louise Lattie. He later moved to White Earth, Minnesota — the place that would forever become his home. To Roy, White Earth was more than just a place to live; it was where his heart belonged, and he never wanted to be anywhere else.
Roy graduated from Waubun Public High School in 1981 and continued his education at the Detroit Lakes Area Vocational Technical School, earning a Plumbing Certificate in 1982. Throughout much of his life, Roy dedicated himself to hard work. His primary profession was masonry, cement, and block work — work he continued to do until health challenges no longer allowed him to. He also worked for the White Earth Reservation in the well and septic department and later helped maintain one of the local elderly housing complexes.
Roy loved all sports and was known as the number one fan of the Reservation softball teams. He also faithfully followed local high school sports and was a past member of the White Earth Volunteer Fire Department.
Throughout his life, Roy found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. He loved being outdoors, whether he was casting a line into the water, spending time hunting, or simply taking in the beauty that surrounded him. To Roy, happiness was never found in grand things — it was found in the peaceful moments and in the people he loved most. Those who knew Roy understood that while he enjoyed many things, his greatest gift was not what he did — it was who he was. He was a man of quiet strength and a generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand, help someone in need. Kindness was never something Roy turned on and off; it was woven into the very fabric of his heart and guided the way he lived each day. He gave of himself freely, asking for nothing in return, and in doing so left a lasting mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know and love him.
Roy was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Clifford and Dora Warren of White Earth, and Otto and Ida Lattie of Aberdeen, Washington; his parents, Roy and Harriet Lattie of White Earth; his nephews, Matthew Steven Premo, Harry Rhoades Jr., Michael Thebiay, Sean Thebiay, and Jarred Thebiay; his brothers-in-law, Harry Rhoades Sr. and Bruce Thebiay; along with numerous aunts and uncles on both sides of the family
Roy is survived by his siblings: Mike (Terri) Vail, Jacque (George) Donnell, Dora Thebiay, Nancy Lattie, Linda Rhoades, and Doris (Dan) Premo. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, 57 great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Shaundra, Roy’s personal care attendant, Essentia Health in Fargo and Detroit Lakes, Heather’s House Hospice in Fargo, and Donehower Funeral Home for the compassionate care, support, and guidance provided during Roy’s final journey.
Roy will be greatly missed, but the love, kindness, and gentle spirit he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His memory will be cherished and remembered fondly by all whose lives were made brighter simply by knowing him.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in White Earth, with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at the Catholic Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow after burial.
