David passed peacefully on May 6th at the Frazee Care Center.
David Allen Mosny was born on August 30, 1954, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, to Herman and Marjorie (Wilbur) Mosny on the family farm north of Detroit Lakes. Dave was the oldest of four children. He attended a country school on Little Floyd Lake until the fifth grade, when the school closed. He later attended Detroit Lakes High School, where he was an active member of FFA throughout his high school years. From the age of nine through graduation, Dave was also deeply involved in the Cloverdale 4-H Club and enjoyed the many friendships and opportunities that came along with it.
Dave graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1972 and later attended vocational school for mechanics. He began working at the Ford garage in town and later at Chaney’s Garage in Detroit Lakes. From there, he built his own shop on his property, which became the beginning of Dave’s Auto.
In 1976, Dave married Holly Renville, who worked alongside him for many years helping with parts running and bookkeeping. Though they later divorced, they continued to maintain a working relationship and shared many years of memories together.
In his younger years, Dave could often be found riding snowmobiles with neighbors and friends, fixing cars, or simply spending time together. He also stayed busy helping on the family farm, milking cows and working in the fields whenever time allowed.
Dave truly loved his work, and it consumed much of his daily life for many years. He became well known as the mechanic people trusted to take their vehicles to and earned a reputation as “the transmission guy.” His knowledge, dedication, and strong work ethic made him highly respected throughout the community.
Dave and Holly were also an avid pickup pulling team. Together they participated in and won many pulls across the region, including events in Canada. Dave drove The Inch Pincher while Holly drove Holly’s Hobby. Pickup pulling was something Dave truly lived for, and he deeply valued both the competition and the friendships that developed along the way. Dave was also a devoted NASCAR fan and could often be found on Sunday afternoons either attending races in person or watching them on television.
Later in life, Dave met Roni Williams, and the two shared many wonderful years together. Dave also cherished the time he spent with Roni’s children, whom he thought of as his own. In time, he lovingly embraced Trey Williams’ children as his own grandchildren as well.
Dave lived a busy but fulfilling life and was a well-accomplished and respected man. After suffering strokes three and a half years ago, he faced many challenges and was unable to return to work. Even so, Dave remained determined to improve and continued doing very well in his own home. Through it all, he never lost hope.
Dave is survived by his brother, Vern (Fay) Mosny; his sister, Valerie (Steve Purrington) Thompson; and his nieces and nephews: Jennifer Mosny, Jesi (Nick) Konen, Julie (Andy) Linaman, Justin Lehmann, Kayla (Zach) Jorgenson, and Jacob (Amber) Lehmann.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, Herman and Marjorie Mosny; his sister, Virginia Mosny-Turcotte; and his brothers-in-law, Laddie Turcotte and David Lehmann.
Services will be held on Thursday, May 14th, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, in Detroit Lakes, MN. With visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.
