Phyllis Schmit

Phyllis Jean Schmit, age 92, of Detroit Lakes passed away at her home on Monday, November 23, 2020, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Phyllis Jean Brogren was born on September 27, 1928 in Willmar, MN to Elmer and Mabel (Smith) Brogren. Phyllis moved from Willmar at a young age to a family farm in Ulen and then to Detroit Lakes. She attended school in Ulen and then Detroit Lakes graduating in 1947. She attended a Business School in Detroit Lakes for a short time. She also worked at Graystone Laundry with her mother.

Julius Schmit and Phyllis (Brogren) were united in marriage on June 28, 1954 in Detroit Lakes. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, crossword puzzles, and her family. She was known for her quiet nature.

She is survived by her children Cheryl (Joe Ed) Knopf of Detroit Lakes, Karen of Detroit Lakes, Linda (John) Schouviller of Callaway, Don of Detroit Lakes, Lori of Detroit Lakes, Lois (Mike) Schouviller of Callaway, Brian of Daytonna Beach, FL, sister-in-law Bernice Brogren of Ulen, MN, 18 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Julius, infant daughter Diane, her brothers Vernon, Kenneth, and Virgil Brogren and sister Virginia Fagerlie.
