Doretta Hanks

Doretta Valeria Hanks of White Earth Minnesota passed peacefully on June 3, 2021 at Pelican Landing in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. Doretta was born on February 12, 1951 to Allen & Margaret (Fairbanks) Smith in White Earth, MN. There she grew up and worked as a human resources director at the tribal office. Doretta met the love of her life Thomas Hanks and married July 6, 1968. They had two sons together Romyn and Shane Hanks. Doretta loved going to concerts, country music, singing, going on car rides, and spending as much time as she could with her 9 grandchildren.

Doretta is survived by her husband Thomas Hanks, two sons Shane & Romyn (Jackie) Hanks, Siblings Mary (Dennis) Zortman, Beverly (Daniel) Stevens, Gordon (Dinah) Smith, Betsy (John) Smith, Charlene Garbow, Regina (Delmar Sr.) Basswood, Alberta (Kenneth SR.) Bevins, Mark (Paula) Smith and Robert Devall. Grandchildren Breanna, Trent, Chandler, Calista, Ciara, Carter, Cyrus, Lachlan, and Camden. As well as her godmother Norby Blake and Uncle Robert E. Lee.

Doretta is preceded in death by her parents Allen & Margaret Smith, Siblings Allen Smith Jr., Robert Smith, Doris Devall and brother-in-law Joseph Garbow Sr.

Visitation will be held at David- Donehower Funeral Home Monday, June 7, 2021 from 5-7 PM

Service will be held at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church On Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 2 PM with graveside burial to follow.
