Verlyn M. Borah, 80, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Funeral Services for Verlyn will be held Thursday, August 16 at 11AM in David Donehower Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
Verlyn Maurice Borah was born September 20, 1937 in Ogema, MN to Jennings and Nellie (Morrison) Borah. He attended elementary school in Ogema and graduated from Waubun High School in 1955. After school he worked with his father on the family farm. On November 28, 1957 Verlyn was united in marriage to Yvonne Sprouls in Detroit Lakes. They purchased the family farm and continued farming. Verlyn started working for Snappy’s in 1967 and continued working in the sheet metal department until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, tractors and taking care of his lawn and garden. During his younger years both Verlyn and Yvonne enjoyed 4 wheeling and snowmobiling. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Verlyn could strike up a conversation with anyone. He instilled in his children a hard work ethic, love for family, ways to be frugal and to always enjoy life.
Verlyn is survived by his wife Yvonne “Bonnie” Borah, two sons: Kim (Michelle) Borah, Darrin (Vicki) Borah and two daughters: Lyn (Bill) Westphal, and Tammy (Ron) Sagmo. In addition he is survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with three sisters: Isy Pederson, Gen (Ivan) Mastin and Sylvia (Steve) Peterson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson: Tony Block and siblings: Glen Borah, Jennings Borah and Wesley Borah along with several nieces and nephews.
A special “Thank You” to the staff at the Detroit Lakes Dialysis Unit and to the ladies with Home Health Care. Your wonderful care and support will forever be remembered.
