Sandra Pierson

Sandra Marie Pierson, age 69, passed away after a short battle with cancer on September 20, 2019, surrounded by her family.  Sandra was born on August 30, 1950, in Moorhead, Minnesota to Nels and Lorene Wergeland.  They moved to Jamestown in 1955 where Sandra grew up and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968.  Sandra married Roger Pierson on July 30, 1977, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where they raised their son, Christopher.  Sandra worked for Becker County Human Services for 27 years.  Sandra devoted her time and energy to her family and enjoyed crafting and bird watching.  Sandra was passionate about her gardening, which she learned from her mother, Lorene.  (her specialty being broccoli).  The support and generosity with her gift giving was extraordinary.  Sandra would take a hint from you and she would be off and running to the nearest store, garage sale or thrift store.  A bargain was something that Sandra never missed.  In Sandra’s spare time, you would find her cheering on her favorite hockey teams, and it was amazing how she would follow her Gopher hockey players and knew every aspect of their career from college to the NHL.  We have very fond memories of her cheering on the grandsons at every hockey game, and she was everybody’s 2nd mom on Christopher’s hockey team while growing up.

Sandra will be remembered as a bright, shining light by her family and will remain in our hearts forever.

Sandra is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Roger; son, Christopher (Angie) Pierson; brother, Lyle (Judy) Wergeland; grandsons, Andrew Altringer; Taylor (Katie) Pierson; Jacob Pierson; two great grandchildren, Leo and Emily; nieces, Nicole (Dustin) Martin; and Zoe (Peter) Manstrom.  Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Lorene Wergeland.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2019, from 10 – 11 a.m., and a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
