Rudolph E. Oien

Rudolph (Rudy) Oien, 81, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away at Sanford Fargo Hospice House.

Rudy was born on August 23, 1944, in Riverside, California to Rudolph and Lena Oien.  Shortly after, they moved back to Minnesota.  He went to elementary school in both Audubon and Frazee, MN before moving to Detroit Lakes School. He was in the graduating class of 1964.

He served in the National Guard from 1965 to 1971. He worked in the lumber business for a few years.  Then he worked for several blacktop construction companies, the last being Driveway Services.

He married Kathleen Erickson on November 29,1969.  They made their home north of Detroit Lakes, MN and raised two children.  Rudy loved spending time with his two grandchildren, taking them to school events, riding with them in his Ranger, watching TV (especially Westerns) and going for rides in the country.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Kathleen, daughter Jennifer (Korry Morris) Orth, son Randy (Kimberly) Oien, grandchildren Cheyenne (Tyler) Olson and Reed Orth, two sisters, Kathy Cole and Sue Shooltz, sister-in-law Jolene (Jerry) Anderson, brother-in-law Walter Erickson, sister-in-law Janice Erickson, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and sister, brother Kenny, brother-in-law Clayton Cole, father-in-law and mother-in-law Wallace and Alice Erickson, brother-in-law Allan Erickson and sister-in-law Donna Erickson.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Sanford Fargo Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care of Rudy.

Celebration of Life is Sunday, March 22 from 2 to 4 PM at Callaway Event Center, Callaway, MN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rudy's name to Richwood Lutheran Church or Sanford Fargo Hospice House.
