Ronald James Beckwith, 66, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Friday, November 28 at his home. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 3 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Interment will be in Senjen Cemetery, rural Rochert, MN. Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 2 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.


Ronald James Beckwith, known as Jim, was born June 4, 1942 in Hammond, Indiana. He lived in several communities with his family prior to coming to rural Detroit Lakes, MN in 1954. He attended Frazee (MN) Public Schools and served with the U. S. Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Detroit Lakes where he attended the Detroit Lakes Area Vocational and Technical College Welding Program. Jim was united in marriage to Margaret Staudacher in Detroit Lakes in 1962. During his working life he was a welder with the Fargo (ND) Foundry, American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, MN, Swift & Company and Hartman Hide & Fur, both in Detroit Lakes. He also worked as a carpenter and operated a hobby farm in rural Detroit Lakes.


Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, sporting trips to Canada and gardening.


Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Detroit Lakes; a son, Jeff and his wife Mary Ann of Bemidji, MN; a daughter, JoAnn and her husband Wayne Erickson of Rochert, MN; four grandchildren, Misty, Ginny, Tanya, Kyle; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Jordan and Garrett; his mother, Ann Beckwith of Detroit Lakes; a brother, David Beckwith of Detroit Lakes.
