Robin Friendshuh

May 12, 1951 — March 19, 2026

Robin Friendshuh, 74, was released from her mortal life on March 19, 2026. After a valiant 2 ½ year battle with cancer she passed away peacefully in her Detroit Lakes, Minnesota home. She was held in the loving arms of her family and supported by the tender care of HIA Hospice.

Robin was born on May 12, 1951 in Crookston, Minnesota, the daughter of Tracy Robert and Catherine Ann (Greenough) Granger. Robin graduated from Detroit Lakes High School, class of 1969. After high school she earned her associate’s degree in physical therapy and enjoyed a 40-year career serving others as a physical therapy assistant. Robin met Douglas Charles Michael Friendshuh on a St. Patrick’s Day date in 1970. Robin and Doug were united in marriage on December 26, 1970. They spent 56 years caring for each other and raising their family on farms and in towns across Minnesota. Robin and Doug also made a winter home for several years in Sun City West, Arizona.

Robin was very active in her church (St. Luke’s Episcopal Church) and community. She volunteered tirelessly in the early days of the Humane Society of the Lakes. She served as a board member, president, and most of all as a foster fur parent. As a cradle Episcopalian, Robin was very involved in the life of the church. She served on the Vestry, as Senior Warden, as a Sunday School teacher and an acolyte trainer. She worked on the Altar Guild and volunteered in the Cursillo movement. She used her artistic talents to create crocheted prayer shawls and quilted Christmas stockings that were filled and donated as a ministry through St. Luke’s. Robin made each piece with care, praying over whoever might one day receive the shawl or Christmas stocking. Robin’s hobbies included reading, kayaking, photography, quilting, counted cross stitch, camping, travel, and history. Her most treasured memories were formed cooking for family, sitting around campfires, and exploring Minnesota’s waters in her kayak.

Robin wanted her two greatest life lessons to be shared here: A life well lived is one lived in service to others. Life offers never-ending opportunities for joy in new experiences as long as we remain open to adventure.

In addition to her parents, Robin was preceded in death by an infant son, Adam. Robin is survived by her husband, Doug Friendshuh; her daughter Amy Fish (Randall) of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and their children, Jeffrey, Kat (Anna), and Zachary; her son Matthew Friendshuh (Jamon) of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and their children, Bethany (Devin), Michael, Ahzriel, and Zariah; and her daughter Nancy Young (Brady) of Phoenix, Arizona, and their children, Libby, AJ, and Daniel. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Morley; her brothers, Jeff Granger (Suzanne) and Jim Granger (Carol); and many nieces and nephews.
