Richard Marlyn Watson, age 77, went home to his lord on November 26th, 2025, at Golden Manor in Detroit Lakes, MN. Richard was born to Marlyn and Evelyn Watson on January 9th, 1948, in Duluth MN. Richard enlisted into the army at a young age. His service brought him to Germany.
When he returned home from service Richard completed his GED and worked multiple jobs in his life. He especially enjoyed working security with his friend Jack Mears. Later in life he retired from his final job at Viking Hatchery, as well as from the National Guard, to spend more time with his wife Verna.
Richard loved camping, playing cards, helping others, and spending time with the grandkids. He was always a source of laughter and could make friends with almost anyone he met, be it for a moment or for a lifetime.
Richard is survived by his sister Janet, stepbrother Allen, half-siblings Lyle and Carol, sons Adam, Kevin (Justin), daughter Angela (Charlie), and stepchildren Chris, Barbara, and Mark. Grandchildren Collan (Jackie), Jamie (Trevor), Amy, Michael, Jessica, Brittany, Samantha (Gretchen), Katelynn, Richard, Nicole, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Marlyn and Evelyn, his stepmother Jean, his wife Verna, his brother Rodger, his sisters Sandra and Pamela, and his grandson William.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at David Donehower Funeral Home December 9th at 2:00 p.m., 609 US Hwy 10 East Detroit Lakes MN. A luncheon and visitation time will begin at Noon. Chances for socializing will happen before and after the service, including cribbage and cards.
