Ray Keith Schmaltz

Ray was born in Hillsboro ND on July 31, 1956, and passed on September 16, 2026.  He graduated from Hillsboro High School.  He worked doing maintenance on a variety of farm equipment for various implement dealers, farmers, and trucking companies in Hillsboro.  

In 2006, he married Yvonne.  In 2012, they moved to Yvonne's family farm, and he finished his career as a mechanic for Superior Lakeside.  

Ray loved living in the country, tinkering in the garage, fishing, going for rides on the pontoon and in his pickup with his little dog Boomer.

He survived by his wife Yvonne; stepdaughters, Sarah (Daren) Christianson, Rachel (Matt) Kilmon; grandsons, Arik and Mason Christianson, Aaron and Tyler Kotta; brother Joe (Sonja) Schmaltz; sisters, Joann Spence, Linda (Richard) Domagala, Patty (Julio) Vega, and Renae Schmaltz; and many nieces and nephews and good friends.

Ray was proceeded in death by his Mother Lily (Teggatz) Schmaltz and Father Edward Schmaltz and his dog Boomer.

A Celebration of Life is being held at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.  Visitation from 2:00pm with a service at 3:00pm at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Saturday, October 3, 2026.
