Mary Ann Carrabou

December 25, 1945 — April 18, 2024

Detroit Lakes

Mary Ann Carrabou, 78, of Detroit Lakes, MN died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Mary was born on December 25, 1945 in White Earth, MN. She was the daughter of George and Leona (Neuhalfen) Chilton. As a child she attended school in White Earth and Detroit Lakes. In 1964 she married Jim Carrabou, and together they had two beautiful children - Jacky & Kenny. They later divorced but remained friends throughout Jim's life. In 1984, she met her soulmate, Tony, and they built an extraordinary life together, filled with love, laughter, travel and providing the happiest place for their six grandkids growing up.

She worked for Swifts, the Mink Ranch & Fair Hills Resort over the years where she was able to retire. She loved playing bingo, scratching lottery tickets and playing cards. She had the love and patience to teach her grandkids all at a young age Hand & Foot, as it became one of the card games they would play for many, many hours throughout her life. She took pride in being able to beat her sister Sherlene and Heather, when she would let her. There was always music playing and lots of dancing in the kitchen.

Tony enjoyed making crafts, so they started a small business together and as of recently she just finished tying 300 dream catchers to fill an order for Native Harvest in Callaway, but also filled many orders and sent them out to longtime friends in Montana. She kept her faith with the lord, loved all her dogs dearly, enjoyed the huge family gatherings and all the visits and phone calls she would receive.

Recently she enjoyed playing Canasta & Spades on the computer every morning, as well as her Facebook games she learned to play. She enjoyed going to Callaway or the casino every once in a while, and although she didn't drink too often anymore, she would have a glass of beer. Nothing brought her more joy than being a mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, cousin and aunt to everyone she knew.

She will be remembered by her daughter; Jacky (John) grandkids; Nicky (Dan), Cassie (Robby), Jack, Heather, Karla (Jesse), Nate (Chace), 11 great-grand kids, Siblings; Bonnie, Dennis, Karen, Pat, Bill, Jerry, Deb, Sherl, Ronnie & Donnie as well as numerous nieces and nephews and all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Tony son; Kenny parents; George & Leona, brother; Dave sister; Jamie.
