Marlys Arleen Tingesdahl

Maryls Arleen (Nesemeier) Tingesdahl, age 90, died at Ecumen Nursing home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, on March 2nd, 2026.

Marlys was born on July 31, 1935, in Leonard, North Dakota, to her parents, Martha (Saar) and Alfred Nesemeier. She lived in Leonard until the age of 6 and started school and Sunday school there from 1941 to 1944. In 1944, she relocated to West Fargo during the war and then moved back to the farm in Leonard, where she graduated from high school in 1953. She moved back to Fargo after graduation and acquired a job at Model Laundry. She soon met Cliff Tingesdahl, and they married on May 28th, 1954. They made their home in West Fargo until Cliff acquired a job in Pomona, California, where they had their son David (Tex) Tingesdahl in 1957. Marlys and Cliff had fostered 26 children over the course of 13 years. They had lived in Medford (Oregon), Victor (Montana), Peyton (Colorado), Plymouth (Minnesota), and back to Fargo, where she worked for the school district in 1969. In 1972, she moved to Barnesville, and in 1975, she worked for the Sons of Norway as manager and hostess. In 1977, she started her job at the Detroit Lakes district, where she worked for the next 42 years. She lived on Little Toad Lake until May of 2024.

Marlys enjoyed the lake life, with her yard full of flowers, feeding the chipmunks and birds, and the love for her neighbors surrounding her. She was always neatly dressed in her seasonal and eye-catching jewelry. She loved playing dominoes with all her close friends, whom she all appreciated and loved dearly.

Maryls is survived by a very dear grandson, David G Tingesdahl (Lindsey); Great-grandson, David K.T Tingesdahl; Daughter-in-law, Ranae Tingesdahl (David (Tex) Tingesdahl).

Marlys is preceded in death by her husband, Cliff; Son, David (Tex); Parents, Martha and Alfred; Brothers, Dwight and Dwain Nesemeier.

Services for Marlys will be held at St. John's Height of Land Lutheran Church, Frazee, Minnesota, on March 13, 2026, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior.
