Mark "Joe" James DeGroat, born on July 26, 1963, in Cheverly, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was the beloved son of Clarence and Helen (Taylor) DeGroat and shared a nurturing upbringing with his seven siblings.
Mark had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and motorcycles. Above all, he was a devoted family man who treasured time spent with his children and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Throughout his working years, Mark was a skilled flooring installer, specializing in carpet and tile. His talents extended well beyond his trade, and his versatility and willingness to take on just about any project earned him a reputation as a true "jack of all trades."
Mark is survived by his four children, Bryan (Ciera) DeGroat, Brittney (John) DeGroat, Brandon (Kattia) DeGroat, and Hunter DeGroat. He will be lovingly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Mason, Keagan, Darren, Hazel, Kyler, Amelia, and Kinsley. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings: Wayne, Rick, Mary, LouAnne, Margaret, Allen, and Troy.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen DeGroat.
The family will honor Mark's life with an open house celebration of life that will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026 starting at 2:00 P.M. and going until 4:00 at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
Mark will be remembered for his warmth, resilience, and the love he shared with those around him. May he rest in peace.
