Margaret "Sweetie" McArthur

August 23, 1953 — September 23, 2017

Margaret L. “Sweetie” McArthur, 64, Moorhead, MN, formerly of  Ogema, died Saturday, September 23 at her home.  Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, September 29 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Callaway, MN, Reverend Matt Meyer, officiating. Interment will be in the Ogema Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.

Margaret Louise McArthur, known as “Sweetie” was born August 23, 1953 in White Earth, MN to Eugene and Genevieve (DeGroat) McArthur. She was raised in Ogema, MN and attended Ogema Elementary School.  She is a 1971 graduate of Waubun High School.  Following her high school graduation, she attended the Moorhead Vocational School where she earned an Associate Degree in Accounting.  Sweetie was united in marriage to Elmer Niemi, November 2, 1974 in Ogema. They later divorced.  She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Moorhead as a payroll specialist from 1973 to 1996. For the last few years, she worked for Sweeney Cleaners.

Sweetie enjoyed camping, fishing and her dogs. She also enjoyed baking for her grandkids, who proudly called her Nana.

Survivors include a son: Douglas (Rachel) McArthur of Waubun, MN, a daughter: Kari (Jamie) Zutz of Dilworth, six grandchildren: Abby, Douglas Jr., Dawson, Brayden,  Colton, Emma; her Mother: Genevieve McArthur of Detroit Lakes, a sister: Wanda Drinkwine (James Lorsung) of Hawley, MN, a brother: Eugene (Natalie) McArthur of White Earth. Sweetie is also survived by three nephews and two nieces, six great-nephews and five great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, nephew, Jesse Drinkwine and a brother-in-law: Harold “Butch” Drinkwine.
