Lorraine Tyberg

Lorraine Esther (Jacobson) Tyberg passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024 at Diamond Willow under their care and that of Hospice of The Red River Valley.

Lorraine was born April 8, 1931 in Bismarck, ND to Leonard & Esther (Balgaard) Jacobson. She moved to Minnesota as a young child, living in multiple places before the family finally settled in Elbow Lake, MN in 1947. She graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1949.  Over the years Lorraine was employed by Dr. Davis DDS as a Dental Assistant, the Long Prairie Clinic as an Office Manager and Tinjum Appraisal Service from 1978 until she retired in 1992.

Lorraine and Howard E. Tyberg were united in marriage on September 15, 1951. In 1952 they moved to Long Prairie where Howard began his career in teaching and son Gary was born. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1962, where Beth was born and where Lorraine resided until her death.  Lorraine was a Homemaker, Den Mother, and Camp Fire Girls Leader. She was active in Lincoln Elementary PTA, and was a Great Books Club Leader. She was an active member of 1st Lutheran Church where she served on the Church Council and was a Sunday School teacher. Lorraine was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and many Bridge Clubs. She especially loved to read.  Howard & Lorraine enjoyed traveling throughout their life together, visiting 48 states, Mexico, Canada and Norway.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Beth Ann (Deryk) Funkhouser; Daughter-in-law Jade Tyberg; 5 Grandchildren: Amber (Hans) Decker; Sara Funkhouser; Jamie, Jasmine and Joshua Tyberg and step-grandson Sean Eason; Great Granddaughter Annika Decker. Sisters: Arlene Niemi and Carolyn (Duane) Geir; brothers: Dale Jacobson and Harvey Jacobson; Brother-in-law Orvis Pattison and Sister-In-Law Barbara Jacobson. And many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law, husband Howard, Son Gary, Brother Richard Jacobson, Sister Doris Pattison, Sister-in-laws: Lynn Jacobson, Mildred Tyberg and Zona Jacobson, and Brother-in-laws: Leonard Niemi and Sheldon Tyberg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lorraine's honor may be made directly to Hospice of Red River Valley or First Lutheran Church of Detroit Lakes.
