Lorna M. Schons, 74, rural Ogema, MN, died Tuesday, November 29 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Funeral Services for Lorna will be held Saturday, December 3 at 11AM in Lund Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Friday, December 2 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5pm-7pm with a 7pm Prayer
Service. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior to services. Lorna Marie Gjerde was born September 21, 1942 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Simon and Borgny (Garnes) Gjerde. She attended country school in Strawberry Lake until the 8th grade and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1960. After graduation she moved to Fargo, ND and worked at the Powers Hotel. She then moved to Denver, CO. She
enjoyed living in Denver and loved all the attractions it had to offer. When her Dad, Simon fell ill, Lorna moved back home. She began working at the Erie Jr and Soupstone Restaurants. She later accepted a position as a bookkeeper for Friesen's Inc. In 1992, Lorna purchased the Lake Park Café. She always dreamed of owning her own restaurant and for over 10 years, Lorna and her daughter Cindy enjoyed working side by side. After selling her restaurant, Lorna
started working for New Dimensions Home Health Care, a job she found very rewarding, and she continued working there until her death. Lorna stayed active with her church; she was a longtime member of Lund Lutheran Church where she served as a Secretary Treasurer for several years. She taught Sunday school, was a 4-H leader, and a member of the Farmers Union. She enjoyed her church family and was always willing to help out when she could. Lorna loved living in the country. The sounds of birds singing and wildlife running around always brought happiness to her and reminded her of childhood memories. She was a wonderful grandmother and loved spending time with her family, especially staying current with her grandchildren's activities. Lorna will be remembered and deeply missed by her children: David Munger (Diane) Wisconsin, Doug Dean of
Dilworth, MN., Cindy (John) Sauer of Detroit Lakes, Brad Dean of Ogema, MN. , ten grandchildren; Jessica, Haley,
Tyler, Spencer, Tasha, Maria, Jonathon, Nikki, Crystal and Melissa. Lorna's special companion, Darrell Winter, sister, Irene McDowell, sister-in-law, Kay (Steve) Noll, brother-in-law, Don Gustafson and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, brothers: Willard, Robert, James and Richard along with two sisters: Sylvia Ringstad and JoAnn Gustafson. Brother-in-laws. Jim McDowell and Danny Ringstad.
