Lily Schmaltz

Lily Celia Schmaltz, 89, of Lake Park, MN formally of Hillsboro, ND, passed away on December 6, 2020 at the Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN.

Lily Celia Teggatz was born of December 21, 1930 to George and Britta (Nash) Teggatz in Grand Forks, ND. They Moved to Mentor, MN when they were young. She attended high school in Mentor, MN and graduated as part of the class of 1949. She went one year at Crookston, MN earning a teaching degree, then she taught one year in a one room schoolhouse. She worked then at the Hillsboro Hospital as a nurse’s aide for many years and then transitioning to work for Whiteman’s Bakery for many years.

Lily enjoyed many things in life like dancing, yodeling, singing, playing guitar or the accordion, and reading Little House on the Prairie.  She was a loving mother and grandmother. Lily was very active in the Hillsboro senior center and the Catholic Daughters at Saint Rosa of Lima Catholic Church. She was known for walking everywhere.

Deeply loved Lily’s passing will be mourned by her children JoAnn Spence, Major Joe (Sonja) Schmaltz, Linda (Richard) Domagala, Ray (Yvonne) Schmaltz, Patty (Julio) Vega, and Renae Schmaltz, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, her sister Bernice Hangsleben, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Lily in death are her parents and her siblings Louie, Ray, Gene, Lyda, Margaret, Karl and Dorothy.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnyside Care Center for their care and support.
