Larry Rumery

Larry R. Rumery, 71, passed away peacefully at his home in Ogema on Monday, September 3, 2017.

Funeral Services for Larry will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1:00 PM in Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Callaway, MN.  A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Reverend Matthew Meyer officiating. www.daviddonehower.com.

Larry Ray Rumery was born on September 25, 1945 to Frank and Lucylle (Sullivan) Rumery, in Superior, Nebraska. He grew up and attended school in Superior, graduating with the class of 1963.  He later attended college in Hastings, Nebraska.

During his life, Larry worked for the state of Nebraska as a drivers license examiner, and in men's clothing as a buyer for Yonkers Department Stores in Omaha and Sioux Falls.  He later ran a jewelry store in Dubuque, Iowa.

Eventually Larry came to the Detroit Lakes area to visit a friend and he liked it so much, he never left.  He worked various jobs in the area including ten years at Bergen’s Greenhouse and the last 16 years as a sales associate at Walmart.

Larry and Diane (Meyer) were married in 2004. He was forced to retire due to his health issues at the end of 2016.

Larry enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flowers.  He loved to travel to Nebraska and Colorado.  He couldn’t go through Lincoln without stopping to eat at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant.  He also enjoyed breakfast at Mrs. B’s in Perham.

Larry went to Pulmonary/Cardiac Rehab at the Essentia, St. Mary's Center where he also made many friends.

Larry is survived by his wife Diane, one son; Travis, three step-daughters; Andrea of Frazee, MN, Jackie (Richard) of Colorado Springs, CO., and Megan (Nolan) of New York Mills, MN. Six grandchildren; Devon, Kiana, Kimora, DeShawn, Caleb and Nevaeh. Sister-in-law; Rita Rumery of Seward, Nebraska and nephews; Jerry (Tracy) and their children; Abbey, Katie and Justin all of Seward, Nebraska.  Jim (Lynn) and their children; Morgan, Shelby and Gunner all of York, Nebraska, along with Cully who lives in Germany and Lesalene of Indiana.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Lester, Bob and Rich.

The Rumery family wishes to thank all the Doctors at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. who cared for Larry during his recent hospital stay.  Thank you Dr. Scott Lawrence from Detroit Lakes Sanford who always listened and told Larry the truth of how it was, but tried to help in any way he could. (“Thanks Doc!”)  Also a very special thank you to our friends and family, Pastor Meyer for all the prayers, hugs and visits.  And last but by no means least to the Hospice of the Red River Valley for all their kindness and care during these past two weeks.  You made Larry’s last days much more comfortable.  Special thanks to nurses’ Kyle and Abbey and to Chaplain Nathan for his visits.  Thank you Lisa for your Kindness and help.  May the good Lord bless each of you!
