Larry Eckre

Larry Eckre, a beloved dad, grandpa, and friend, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on September 13, 2025.

He was born on January 9, 1951, in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. Larry was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran church of Evergreen, graduated from Frazee High School, followed by an associate's degree from Moorhead Technical College.

In December of 1974, Larry married Carol Totland at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They were blessed with three beautiful children: Lisa Clarey, Amanda Aschnewitz, and Darin Eckre.

Larry loved spending time with family, and nothing brought him more joy than his grandkids, He was proud of all nine of them: Samantha Riggles (Thomas), MaKayla Ullrich (Trevor), Rylee Turcotte, Mollie Turcotte, Chandler Ullrich, Ella Ullrich, Payton Turcotte, Parker Ullrich and Erik Aschnewitz-as well as his three great grandkids Bently Riggles, Kilee Carter, and Nova Plocher.

Larry drove an impressive four million miles during his life as a truck driver working for Daggett's, Burkel Turkey Farms, and Detroit Lakes Express before he retired in December of 2024.

Larry enjoyed riding motorcycle, taking trips with friends, Nascar, ice fishing, raising cattle and teaching his kids and grandkids how to fix things.

Larry's commitment to sobriety of almost 30 years was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Delores Eckre, one brother, one sister, one son in law, and his best friend Laddie Turcotte.

Larry will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
