Kermit Rodewald

Kermit H. Rodewald, 83, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 23 at Zion Lutheran Church, Reverend Guy Roberts, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM Thursday at David-Donehower Funeral Home. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Kermit Henry Rodewald was born August 7, 1933 in Gibbon, MN to Henry and Martha (Husfeldt) Rodewald. He moved with his family to rural Callaway, MN in February, 1940. He attended Prairie Knoll Country School and, at age 77, he completed his G. E. D. Kermit farmed with his family on the John Krier farm. He was united in marriage to Audrey Hansen, July 14, 1964 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD. They lived in Detroit Lakes where he was a Watkins dealer for Mahnomen County; drove school bus for Olander and Arndt Bus Company and for Schultz Bus Company for over 40 years and worked in building maintenance for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 20 years. Kermit also drove cab for Courtesy Cab Company and did volunteer driving for Becker County Transit for a number of years.

Kermit enjoyed being a foster parent; fishing, especially with his grandchildren; being an Elder at Zion Lutheran Church and visiting people in area nursing homes. Kermit is survived by his children, Tami and Ron as well as 42 foster children, including Jennifer Skoog; four grandchildren; Kacee, Jamison, Bryson and Joseph; two sisters: Marlys (Ken) Svare of Audubon, MN, Karen (Arnold) Kubasta of Eloy, AZ; two brothers: Wallace (Charlotte) Rodewald of Detroit Lakes, David (Joyce) Rodewald of Audubon, MN, and a sister-in-law, Carol Rodewald of Glyndon, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, his parents and a brother, Verdon.
