Kenneth "Kenny" James Carlson peacefully passed away on September 30, 2026, after a courageous 24-year battle with cancer and liver disease. After years of fighting, Kenny has finally found peace.
Ken was born in McMinnville, Oregon to Norma (Rice) and George Carlson. Around the age of 5, his family moved to the Frazee, MN area, which became his home for the most of his life.
Kenny graduated from Frazee High School in 1973, and later that year was united in marriage to Kathy (Mjor). They just celebrated 53 years of marriage on September 1st. Ken and Kathy were blessed with two wonderful children, Kasey and Kaylene "Kato", who brought them countless adventures, memories and joy throughout their lives. Ken was deeply proud of his family and the adults his children have become.
Throughout his life, Kenny wore many hats as a husband, father, brother, law enforcement officer, carpenter, salesman, hunter and fisherman. One of his greatest passions was Ken's Bait & Tackle in Frazee. He loved nothing more than hearing the latest "fish tales" and sharing his knowledge and advice with the children who came through the doors. His shop was more than a business; it was a place where friendships were made, stories were shared, and memories were created.
In his later years, Ken found great enjoyment in his classic car, taking road trips with Kathy, and the special days when Kato would "babysit" him with trips to the casino. These simple adventures brought him great happiness.
Kenny is survived by his wife, Kathy of Frazee, MN; his son Kasey and wife, Alicia Krueger of Minneapolis, MN; his daughter Kaylene "Kato" of Frazee, MN; his beloved mini Goldendoodle, Ruger; his niece Julie (Dustin) Largent and their son Cooper of Geneseo, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norma and George Carlson, and his sisters, Patricia "Putt" and Connie.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the many kind and caring people Kenny met throughout his numerous clinic and hospital visits. Special thanks go to the infusion team in Detroit Lakes, who cared for him for so many years; HIA Hospice; and finally, the compassionate staff at the Frazee Care Center.
They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Shivan Kulasingham and Dr. Louis Geeraerts, Ken's longtime physicians. Their years of dedicated care, compassion, and shared sense of humor meant so much to Kenny and his family.
Ken will be remembered for his strength, his sense of humor and positive attitude. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, memories, and people who loved him.
