Kenneth James Carrabou

November 1, 1967 — March 13, 2024

Detroit Lakes, MN

Kenneth James Carrabou, 56, of Detroit Lakes, MN died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Ken was born on November 1, 1967 in Detroit Lakes, he was the son of James and Mary (Chilton) Carrabou. As a child, he moved around quite a bit, but eventually the family settled in the Strawberry Lake area where he attended school in Callaway and later in Detroit Lakes. He met Gale Olson and they had three beautiful children; Heather, Karla & Nathan, who were his life, as he was for them. After school, he began working for Sellin Brother's where he worked for 35 years, he became a member of the Local 49ers Union and was able to retire last year. In his younger years, no matter what it was he loved to go fast, he was into hotrods and racing his Mach Z, he had the trophies to show, but it’s been said he won almost every race.

He was the most hardworking man and so generous, he would help anyone that needed anything. When he wasn’t working, he was having a cold beer always busy doing something outside around the yard. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, wherever it would take him.  He could fix anything with just about nothing. He built his garage with the help of Robby, John, Nate, Charles & Brandon. He also bought a pickup, both of which he was so proud of, his pickup never spent much time outside and he always made sure it was kept clean.

He loved the Minnesota Vikings except most Sundays. He loved hunting & fishing with everyone, especially his kids, they took him on all their fishing trips and out hunting even when he would go back to the truck after 5 minutes because it was "too cold for ol pops". Pops got his nickname one summer while at work, he even referred to himself as pops, so it has stuck with him ever since. He would always say, pops will take care if it!

Although your dash was not long enough, just close your eyes and you will see, all the memories you have of me.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Carrabou & his mother's significant other: Tony Brugman.

Ken will be deeply missed by his children: Heather, Karla (Jesse) and Nathan (Chace), mother: Mary, sister: Jacky (John), grandchildren: Carson, Brea & Braylee, nieces: Nicky & Cassie (god-daughter) and nephew, Jack. His fiancé, Lyn and everyone else who knew and loved him.
