Kathleen Kay Brekken was born to Ernest & Pearl (Glover) Benson on December 13, 1949, in Detroit Lakes, MN. She attended District 87 country grade school in Holmesville Township and then went on to attend Detroit Lakes High School, from which she graduated in 1967. After high school, she attended beauty school in Fargo, ND and worked at Kmart. In 1965, Kathleen met the love of her life, Keith George Brekken, and they were married on May 4, 1968, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They moved to Moorhead, MN, and then to Grand Forks, ND while Keith worked for GMAC until 1971. Then Keith, Kathleen, and their two children, John and Jill, moved back to Rochert, MN and lived at her childhood home for the last 54 years.
Kathleen was a stay-at-home housewife where she supported the family. She enjoyed playing volleyball, tending her flower beds, playing games with family and friends, riding her ATV on trails, feeding the birds, squirrels, turkeys, deer, and especially liked the sandhill cranes that have been coming to her yard for the past 10 years. She enjoyed cooking, finding new recipes, and she would always send you home with extra, as no one ever left her house hungry. Her holiday meals and special birthday cakes will be truly missed. She was also active in Catholic Daughters at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Kathleen is survived by her son, John Brekken; granddaughter, Brianna (Ethan) Byer; half-brothers, Brad Stall, Darwin Stall, Wayne Stall; son-in-law, Bruce Blauert; and many loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Keith; daughter, Jill Blauert; father, Ernest Benson; mother, Pearl Stall; sister, Orlynn Hanson; half-sisters, Valerie Stall, Tammy Stall; and half-brother, Kevin Stall.
