June Winings

June 27, 1927 — October 4, 2017

June A. Winings, 90, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.  Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, October 7 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.  Interment will be in Eskjo Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Park.

Friends may call at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday.

June Alice Winings was born June 27, 1927 in Arthur, North Dakota to Sidney and Alice (Keller) Murch.  She moved with her family to Jamestown as a young girl where she was raised and educated.  She worked as a house keeper for the George Winings family in Arthur, N. D.   June was united in marriage to Albert Winings, June 20, 1943 in Jamestown, ND.  They farmed near Arthur, 1943 – 1968 when they moved to Lake Park, MN.  They operated the Lake Park Café and the Lake Park Roller Rink until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1973.  While in Detroit Lakes, June operated New-To-You second hand store from 1973 – 2003. June and Albert hosted many foster children in their home.  Albert died in 2001 and June entered Oak Crossing in 2012.  June was united in marriage to Gordon Myhre, March 19, 2016 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

She enjoyed helping people, making Monster Cookies and having coffee at Main Street Restaurant.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon of Detroit Lakes, a daughter: Sandra (Jack) Berg of Audubon, MN, a son: Douglas (Pam) Winings of Detroit Lakes, MN, eight grandchildren: DeAnna, Darcy, Deric, Jessie, Mandy, Jacky, Piper, Tatum; six great grandchildren: Elijah, Emily, Macy, Jadan, Addison, Lydia; one great great grandchild: Macre; three sisters: Vonnie (Jim) Ross of Grand Junction, CO, Cecelia (Bernard) Sundeen of Cleveland, ND, Phyllis (Edward) Hodgson of Riverdale, MN.  A step-brother: Duwayne (JoAnn) Perry of Mechanicsville, PA and a step-sister: Ardelle Goff of Jamestown, ND.  In addition to her first husband, Albert, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon, a great grandson, Will, two sisters: Betty and Esther and three brothers: Everett, Sidney and Ernie.  June's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Oak Crossing family for their loving care.
