June LeCount

June 5, 1925 — October 14, 2016

June C. LeCount, 91, Detroit Lakes, died Friday, October 14 at Diamond Willow in Detroit Lakes. A private funeral service will be held. June was born in the old Park Rapids hospital on June 5 1925 to Charles and Juditta (Bjelland) Gustafson. She was the youngest of ten children. June attended District 59 grade school and Menahga High School. She moved to California in 1943 and worked at the Good Year Rubber plant, building self-sealing airplane fuel tanks for the war. On February 10, 1946 she married Everett LeCount in Long Beach, CA. They moved to Minnesota, then back again to California. In 1958, they moved to Detroit Lakes where they finally settled. June enjoyed her family and friends, cooking, gardening, berry picking, maple sapping and rummage sales. She was an animal lover and had made pets of 33 different species of wild and domestic animals and fowl. June wrote and published three books of poetry and one memoir. She had poems published in six of the "Treasured Poems of America" books. June is survived by her son: David and his wife Leonida LeCount, Grandsons: Thor LeCount, Chad LeCount and David "Kimo" LeCount, one granddaughter: Tanya "TJ" Tjaden and great-grandchildren: Justin Dinh, Serenity June Tjaden, Mathew LeCount, Killey LeCount, Ona Cheatham and Marcelino Cheatham. One nephew, Gene Howe, nieces: Karen Updegrove, Carol Hurlbut, Kathy Distefan, Kathy Dooley, Ardiss Hendrickson and 21 great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Everett (2010), son, Robert (1990) and brothers: Art Gustafson, Robert Gustafson, Irvin Gustafson and Aaron Gustafson, along with sisters: Hilda Gustafson, Frances Halverson, Clara Jschudi, Esther McCronie and Irene Howe, one nephew: George Halverson and four nieces: Betty Knapp, Delores Paulson, Judy Hammer and Peggy McCranie.
