Judith “Judi” Collmann, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Judi was born in Mankato, Minnesota, to Lyle and Harriet Prange, who preceded her in death. She grew up in St. Clair, where she met the love of her life, Marvin Collmann. The two were married on June 6, 1964, and shared a devoted and joyful marriage that spanned more than six decades.
Judi had a vibrant spirit and a beautifully imaginative soul. She found joy in the magic of everyday moments—standing in the rain and wind, smiling as she said, “the trees were so happy they were dancing,” and gazing at the sky to find shapes in the clouds. She loved all holidays and delighted in decorating for each one, with Christmas holding a special place in her heart.
Creativity was woven into every part of Judi’s life. She spent many years designing costumes for Playhouse 412 in Detroit Lakes and even took the stage herself, playing Bloody Mary in their production of South Pacific. She also enjoyed embroidery and other crafts, reading, and was known for the vivid stories she shared, leaving lasting impressions on everyone who had the pleasure of listening.
Judi dedicated much of her professional life to caring for others as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked in eldercare, home health, and inpatient orthopedics, always offering compassion and kindness to those in need. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling and embracing a slower pace of life.
Throughout her life, Judi lived in northern Minnesota and Oregon before returning to Minnesota in 2007, where she made her home in Detroit Lakes until her passing. In her later years, she faced complications of Alzheimer’s disease with strength and grace, and her family is deeply grateful for the attentive care she received from the staff at Golden Manor.
Judi is survived by her beloved husband, Marvin Collmann; her children, Todd (Caren), Shane, Jason (Gina) Collmann, and Tess (Darren) Rice; her sister, Bonnie (Ron) Sack; and her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for her family was boundless, and they will carry her memory forward with deep affection.
In accordance with Judi’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Her ashes will be spread in the places she loved most, allowing her spirit to rest among the beauty she so deeply appreciated.
Judi will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the joy she found in life’s simple wonders. Her legacy lives on in the stories she told, the love she gave, and the family she held so dear.
