John Alexander

January 12, 1929 — April 20, 2017

Anne M. Alexander, 84 and John C. Alexander, 88, Detroit Lakes, MN, entered into eternal rest together, hand in hand. Anne passed away April 19 and John passed away April 20 at Ecumen- Emmanuel Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial for both John and Anne will be held Tuesday, April 25 at 12pm in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Monday, April 24 from 5pm-7pm with a 7pm Prayer Service at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be held in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. John was born January 12, 1929 in Detroit Lakes, MN the only child of Clarence and Katherine (Leitheiser) Alexander. He attended school at District 26, a rural country school in Erie Township outside of Detroit Lakes. Anne was born February 23, 1933 in Ogema, MN to Herman and Margaret (Jasken) Teiken. She attended elementary school in Ogema, MN and graduated from Waubun High School in 1951. Anne and John were united in marriage on August 7, 1952 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They made their home east of Detroit Lakes where they lived until they entered Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home. John was raised on the family farm outside of Detroit Lakes. He served his country with the United States Army from 1951-1952. After he returned home, he worked for BNSF Railroad but returned home to work with his father drilling wells and farming small grains with one farm being outside of Detroit Lakes and the other near Two Inlets. Together John and Anne had seven children. Maintaining a busy household, Anne still found time to work outside of home and provide for their family. She waitressed at the Erie 34 Supper Club, Erie Jr and finished her career with the Fireside Restaurant. This last August, John and Anne celebrated their 64 wedding anniversary. They both enjoyed their spare time; Anne was a talented seamstress, knitting numerous sweaters and mittens for her children, often donating several pairs each year during Christmas time. She also enjoyed quilting. She made many quilts for her children over the years and one for each grandchild as a graduation present. She was an amazing baker. Her homemade bread will definitely be missed, especially during the holiday season. While Anne busied herself, so did John. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. In his later years, he loved to buy and sell things and was often tinkering on some project around the house or in his garage. Thinking of them enjoying Heaven together, we can only imagine. John and Anne are survived by their children: Jackie (Jason) Voeller of Climax, MN, Kate (Steve) Anderson of Rochert, MN, Nancy Alexander (Arlan Anderson) of Baudette, MN, Tom (Karen) Alexander of Detroit Lakes, Mike Alexander of Detroit Lakes and Jim Alexander of Detroit Lakes. In addition they are also survived by their seven grandchildren: Jessy Voeller, Matt (Brittany) Alexander, Lindsay (Jon) Weisgerber, Adam (Sarah) Alexander, Tim Alexander, Alex Anderson and Austin Anderson. Three great-grandchildren: Hanna, Morgan and Kiley. On Anne's side of the family she is survived by two sisters: Dalorus Hanowski of Little Falls, MN and Judy (Bob) Necas of Douglas, AZ along with two brothers: Otto (Harriet) Teiken of Eden Prairie, MN and Ken Teiken. They are preceded in death by their parents, one son: Bob, one grandson: Drew, daughter-in-law: Lynn along with Anne's five brothers: Vernon, Harold, Richard "Huntz" Duane and John and Anne's three sisters: Marie Wambach, Dorothy Bentler and Carol Anderson.
