Jerome "Jerry" Herman, age 71, died Friday, April 11 at his home on Star Lake near Dent, Minnesota.
Jerome was born March 25, 1937, to Valentine and Bernice (Adams) Herman at Sartell, MN. He graduated from Sauk Rapids High School and enlisted in the Navy. He served in the Seabees (Construction Battalion Unit) from 1954 to 1958.
On April 1, 1958, he married Karen Lowe in St. Cloud, MN. Jerome graduated from Winona State College, Winona, MN. He began his teaching career in Illinois, and came to Detroit Lakes in 1966 to continue his teaching. He was an industrial arts teacher in both the Detroit Lakes Senior High and Junior High Schools. In 1993, health problems forced him to leave the teaching field. In 2002, Jerry and Karen retired to a lake home on Star Lake near Dent, MN.
Jerry enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying sharing his experiences with his students over the many years.
Jerry will be remembered and missed by his wife of 50 years, Karen, two daughters, Lisa and husband Thomas Campbell of Montebello, NY, Lynn and husband George Wolf of Grand Forks, ND, two sons, Craig and wife Jonette of Raleigh, NC, Thomas and wife Christine of Blaine, MN. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Rebecca Wolf, Matthew Wolf, Cole Herman and one great grandchild, Damien Wolf.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two infant children.
Memorial donations received will be presented to the Dent American Legion Post #148 in memory of Jerry to set up a scholarship and be awarded to a deserving student or students.
