Jenelle Boomgaarden, a radiant spirit born on November 22, 1941, in Detroit Lakes, MN, left this world on September 9, 2025, at the Essentia Oak Crossing Care Facility at the age of 83. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth and love profoundly touched the lives of many.
Jenelle graduated from Minneapolis Business College in 1961 after attending Detroit Lakes Holmes School. Her career included significant roles at Bergens Greenhouse and as the beloved "Hostess with the Mostest" at Hardees restaurant in Detroit Lakes, where she not only served meals but also forged lasting friendships with everyone who walked through the door.
On September 2nd of 1967, Jenelle married her soul mate and the love of her life, Melvin Boomgaarden. From this union, a family of four and a lifelong journey together began, staying unified until her recent passing. Until death do they part…
Jenelle was known for her vibrant personality and her motto "the more the merrier," which was often reflected in her love for hosting gatherings filled with laughter and joy. Large gatherings were her “love language,” bringing together family and friends to share delightful meals that often featured her favorite crockpot creations. Her affection for animals extended to her love for dogs, birds, and all creatures great and small, which showcased the kindness that blossomed in her heart.
Jenelle leaves behind her loving family: husband, Melvin; her son, Larry [Kathy] Boomgaarden; her daughter, Wendy [Ken] Dahring; and her cherished grandchildren, Sam, Ben, and Joey Boomgaarden, Bailey, Megan, and Jayden Dahring, who will always remember her as a source of unconditional love and support.
While Jenelle’s parents, Lowell and Marion Schmidt [Bradbury], have passed, they surely welcomed her to the heavenly kingdom beyond, with open arms. The legacy of her kindness, hospitality, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
Her spirit will forever remain a bright light in our lives, reminding us of the joy found in connection, love, and the beauty of shared moments.
