Janet Johansson

Janet Johansson, 88, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes at 11AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Janet Ellen Bosworth was born on April 24, 1933, in Rugby, ND to Thomas and Anna (Hatlie) Bosworth. During her school years, Janet lived in Lehr, ND, Casselton, ND, Almont, ND, Carpio, ND, and Bucyrus, ND where she graduated from high school with the class of 1951. After high school, she attended NDSU where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education in 1955.

She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Kappa Delta PI sorority, and the National Honor Society.

Janet taught home economics at the Detroit Lakes High School from 1955-1957. She married John Thomas Johansson at First Lutheran Church in 1956. The couple were married for over 64 years before his passing. The couple raised two sons Thomas and David. She was an active member of First Lutheran, serving on the church council, Sunday School, Action corps, Rebekah circle, and First Lutheran Church Women, and various committees since 1955. Janet taught Home Economics at Waubun High School for twenty-two years before she retired. She was an active member of the MN Education Association, and Emmanuel nursing home auxiliary. After retirement, Janet and John traveled to Europe six times with the First Lutheran tour choir and went on many cruises.  In the winter months, they would stay in Texas to be closer to their son. Janet is now reunited with her beloved husband John who passed away last August.

Janet is survived by her sons Thomas (Donna-Jean), and David (Andrew) Johansson; grandchild Ashley (Chris) Everly; great grandchildren Silas and Felicity.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John; parents Thomas and Anna Bosworth; and sister Marjorie Garman.
