Irene Byer

March 23, 1935 — November 19, 2017

Irene Rose Byer, age 82, of Frazee, MN, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Frazee Care Center under the care of the Hospice of the Red River Valley.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with a time of gathering an hour prior.  A visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a rosary at 6:00 pm and a prayer service at 6:30 pm, Monsignor David Baumgartner officiating.

Irene was born on March 23, 1935, to Anthony and Cecilia (Joachim) Byer, at the family farm in Frazee.  She grew up in Frazee.  At the age of 18 she entered into Fergus Falls State Hospital.  She then moved to Brainerd State Hospital.  She was then placed into private care in Mrs. Anderson’s Group Home in Frazee where she lived for 32 years.  She then went under the care of Glen and Beverly Roberts, where she spent her remaining years.

Irene enjoyed world puzzles and word finds.  She liked making latch-hook pictures.  Irene was always up for any game that anyone would play with her.  She loved watching the Minnesota Twins.  Irene loved watching Mass on TV and was devout in her faith.  She also loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her siblings: Harold Byer of Detroit Lakes, Florence (Paul) Jensen of Wadena, Delores (Gene) Manning of Callaway, Richard (Dorothy) Byer of Perham, Alberta Nielsen of Seattle, WA; Evanell (Don) Christensen of Damascus, OR; Joseph (Karen) Byer of Perham, Bernice (Sal) Muscarello  of Pickerington, OH; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Cecilia Byer; and a brother, Leonard Byer. The David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family.
