Herbert William Ladwig

Herbert William Ladwig, aged 94, of Frazee, MN, peacefully passed away on July 3, 2026, at the Frazee Care Center under hospice care. Born on April 8, 1932, in Hamden Township, MN, he was the cherished son of Albert and Ruth (Cumihow) Ladwig.

Herbert answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army in 1954, serving as an Ammunition Renovation Specialist and earning a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and continued his service in the Army Reserves until 1962. Following his military service, he embarked on a diverse career path. He began farming, later worked at the San Diego shipyards, worked for Boeing Aircraft in Washington State, and ultimately dedicated over 20 years as a maintenance mechanic at American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead until his retirement.

On November 3, 1957, Herbert married Marion (Nelson) Ladwig. Together, they built a life in Callaway, MN, eventually relocating to Washington State, raising their four children. They moved to Frazee in 1980 where he continued to live. Herbert enjoyed the company of his dogs and cattle, indulged in hobby farming, and loved traveling and outdoor activities. Memorial Day and Labor Day camping trips to Cass Lake and Duluth were family traditions he cherished.

Herbert is survived by his children, Gerald "Jerry" Ladwig and his children Heather Ladwig and JR Geslicki; daughter Cheryl Schwarzrock and her husband Doug Schwarzrock, along with their children Kayla (Brandon) Bellefeuille, Ryan (Savannah) Schwarzrock, and Trevor Schwarzrock; son Dale Ladwig and his wife Diane Ladwig, with their children Paige (Spencer) Nordman and Cody (Sophia) Ladwig; daughter Cindy Anderson and her daughter Ashley (Ben) Ratz. Many great-grandchildren and siblings Norma Stallboerger, Russell Ladwig, William (Delores) Ladwig, Lorraine Brown, Larry Ladwig, and Robert Ladwig also survive him. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Marvin Nelson.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Marion Ladwig, his parents, Albert and Ruth Ladwig, two brothers, Dwayne Ladwig and Albert Ladwig, his son-in-law, MarLee Anderson, brothers-in-law, John Brown, Bernard Stalboerger, Elmer Nelson, and Lloyd Nelson, and sisters-in-law Evonne Ladwig and Charlotte Ladwig.

The funeral service will be held at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 2 PM, officiated by Pastor Arlyn Rusche. Visitation will begin one hour prior.
