Gertrude Wrigley

April 13, 1926 — December 18, 2008

Gertrud T. Wrigley, 82, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Thursday, December 18 at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 22 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Wade Dutton, officiating. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls, MN. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home on Monday.


Gertrud Tea (T-ah) Weckesser was born April 13, 1926 in Heidelberg, Germany to Mr. & Mrs. Franz Weckesser. She was raised and educated in Heidelberg. Gertrud married John Wrigley who was serving with the U. S. Army in Heidelberg. They came to the United States in 1951. With John’s career service in the Army, they lived in many places around the world. During her working life, Gertrud was well known as an excellent seamstress. She became a citizen of the United States March 11, 1960. Following John’s discharge from the Army, he and Gertrud lived in Las Vegas, NV and Prescott, CA. John died November 6, 2002 following which; Gertrud came to Detroit Lakes to be near her niece and nephews.


Survivors include her niece, June Walden of Detroit Lakes; nephews, Mike Arai and John Arai both of Detroit Lakes; grand-nephews, Jerry Daniels Walden and Johnny Nobu Arai, both of Detroit Lakes. In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Arai and a brother, Willie Weckesser.
