Genevieve Olk

Genevieve M. Olk, 91, Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.

Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve will be held Monday, November 6 at 1:30PM in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes.  Visitation will be held at David Donehower Funeral Home on Sunday, November 5 from 5pm-7pm with a 6pm Rosary Service followed by 6:30pm Prayer Service.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to Mass on Monday.

Genevieve Eidenschink was born May 13, 1926 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Louis and Catherine (Kirchner) Eidenschink.  She attended rural country school at Erie Township 26 #1 near Detroit Lakes.  At the age of 16 she moved to the Twin Cities and worked at a commercial bakery.  On November 26, 1957, Genevieve was united in marriage to Raymond N. Olk at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.  Since Ray was serving in the United States Army, they resided in Columbus, GA.  In 1961, they bought a home in Richwood, MN.   Genevieve worked for 18 years as a dietician aide at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes until she retired.  During retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family and taking in her grandchildren’s activities.  In the summers she enjoyed going for walks, tending to her flower garden, bird watching and was always ready for a leisurely drive through lakes country.    She also enjoyed word puzzles and playing cards, especially the game “31”.  Genevieve was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family.

Genevieve is survived by her four children:  Douglas (Debbie) Olk of Callaway, Marsha Olk of Frazee, LeRoy Olk of Richwood and Sandra (Bruce) Buck of Detroit Lakes.  In addition she is survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild on the way.  She is also survived by her siblings:  Francis Carlson of Detroit Lakes, Vera Heimerl of New Brighton, Rosie Speldrich of Brainerd, Evie Howe of Coon Rapids and Willy Eidenschink of New Brighton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond (1987), one son: Raymond P. Olk, two brothers:  John Eidenschink and Frank Eidenschink along with one sister:  Theresa Baros.
