Franklin “Frank” Miller, 72, of Fergus Falls, MN formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the MN Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN at 11am. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Franklin Joseph Miller was born on December 2, 1946 to Joseph and Josephine (Wilson) Miller in White Earth, MN. He graduated from Lake Park High School with the class of 1964. After graduation, on February 14, 1965, Frank enlisted with the United States Navy. While in the Navy he was a Communications Technician during the Vietnam war. On December 19, 1968 Frank was honorably discharged from the Navy. Frank made the decision to continue serving his country and enlisted with the United States Army on January 12, 1975. After serving in the Army for two years, Frank was honorably discharged on March 30, 1977. After Frank’s discharge from the military, he furthered his education at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. After graduation from Haskell, he returned to the Minneapolis area. Frank started working as a truck driver for the Salvation Army and he drove for over 22 years before returning to the Detroit Lakes area to be closer to his family. Frank loved caring for gardens and lawns and he was meticulous in his care. Frank moved to the Fergus Falls Veterans Home in 2013, where he enjoyed playing bingo, casino trips with his sister, reading, visiting with fellow veterans and tending to his tomato plant.
Frank will be remembered for his kind heart and gentle soul. Family meant the world to him and he will be deeply missed.
Frank is survived by his siblings Jodi Wheeler, Donna (Leon) Kohler, William Miller, Allan DeGroat, Debbie DeGroat, Connie Engebretson, Lyle Miller, and Lowell Miller; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Preceding Frank in death are his parents, Joseph and Josephine; siblings Donald DeGroat, Paul DeGroat, Beverly Lenz, Lenny Potter, Arnie Miller, sister Bonnie and brother-in-law, Roy Engelking and brother-in-law Roger Wheeler.
