Eugene “Tex” Arlen Hansen was born on October 19,1937 in Seattle, WA to Lorlys and Decima Hansen of Detroit Lakes, MN.

He died peacefully at his home on July 1, 2026, in Detroit Lakes, MN in the care of his loved ones at the age of 88. He is now in Heaven with the Lord Jesus Christ, his Savior.

Eugene graduated at the top of his class from Detroit Lakes High School in 1955. His parents owned Hansen’s Dairy Farm on Cty Rd 6. Eugene won many championships as a dairy showman in FFA, 4-H, MN State Fair and National Dairy Show in Iowa. As a young man, he loved riding horses and skiing with his brother, Sonny, and taught his children both passions at young ages. He graduated as a Civil Engineer from NDSU in 1959 and started a job with the MN Department of Transportation building bridges in Minneapolis. He met Edith Porter, a flight attendant, and they married in 1961. Eugene took a job with Peter Kiewit as the lead engineer building Minuteman Missile silos in S.D. This all led to Eugene eventually starting his own company with engineering licenses in MN, ND, SD, AZ, CO, NY, WA, TX and more. Eugene built and designed several manufactured home sites including one for his father’s business in Detroit Lakes. Eugene worked as County Engineer of Mahnomen, City Engineer for Boulder, CO, Montrose, CO, Mankato & Fairmont, MN, upstate NY, and a consultant for a large project in New Jersey and Puerto Rico. He led the Sewer District projects in Everett, WA, before returning to MN to raise his family of five children. He was the consulting engineer for Foltz Buildings for over 40 years.

As an avid supporter of the Republican Party, he was recognized with many awards. Eugene was a fierce supporter of Police, Christian, and Native American organizations, and an active church member. Eugene made many trips throughout Europe and Central America and a real history buff. He dearly loved his family and attended every activity amidst his busy schedules.

Eugene leaves behind, twin daughters: Linda Harris (Ken) of Monument, CO, and Cindy Bobb (Jay) of Garretson, SD, sons: Steven (Susan) Hansen of Montrose, MN and Michael Hansen of Detroit Lakes. He additionally leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, his daughter, Pamela; his parents, brother Sonny and one great grandchild, Thea.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Monday, July 27th at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
