Elizabeth McCawley

Elizabeth Lorraine McCawley, age 95, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Golden Manor Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. 

Lorraine was born on October 31, 1927, to Carl J. “Charlie” and Alma (Enevold) Schow in Gardner, North Dakota.  Her family moved to McIntosh, Minnesota, where she graduated from McIntosh High School. After high school, Lorraine worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Junge Electric in West Fargo, ND; and Modern Electric of Fargo, ND. She also worked as a credit manager for Midway Electric Supply of Moorhead, MN. Lorraine was the secretary and treasurer of education at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes for many years. In addition, she was with customer service with Dar’s Photography, and a caregiver with LSS and Home Instead Senior Care. 

Lorraine was united in marriage to James Edward McCawley on December 30, 1967, in Winger, MN. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Lorraine was an active member of First Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees throughout the years. She was also a member of Beachcombers Home Study Group.

Lorraine possessed a love of animals including horses, as a past member of USTA, her cats, and her beloved golden retriever.  Likewise, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, counted cross stich, sewing, and following her son’s hobby of mud racing.

Lorraine is survived by her son, James (Holley) McCawley of Detroit Lakes; and two grandchildren, Kira and Patrick.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents, Charlie and Alma; a sister, Doris Corcoran; two brothers, Allen and Merle Schow; two sisters-in-law, Deloris and Leila Schow; and twin nephews.
