Elaine Agnes Zima

October 22, 1929 — November 26, 2023

Waubun

Elaine A. (Dalve) Zima, 94, Waubun passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 26, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

Elaine Agnes Dalve was born October 22, 1929, to Delbert and Julia (Dobmeier) Dalve.  As a young girl, she lived on various farms in the Callaway and Ogema area.  Elaine was united in marriage to John Zima on June 7, 1949 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in White Earth, MN where they remained members their entire lives. John and Elaine were married 59 years and were blessed with five sons and one daughter. They were farmers in the Waubun area and Elaine spent many years working with the Ogema Cooks providing food for weddings and community events.

Elaine enjoyed everything about the farm- going for drives to watch crops change each season, monitoring the projects that were happening in the shop, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and sitting on the porch watching the kids swing and play in the sand pile. Elaine always kept an eye on the weather and used nature signs to make predictions, many of which were correct!  She also enjoyed putting together puzzles, reading the newspaper, doing crosswords, playing rummy and making an occasional trip to the casino.  Grandma Elaine’s house was always a welcome place for everyone.  She hosted a Saturday morning breakfast on the farm each week since 2008 and her kitchen was always open for bread and jelly (which she baked through her 93rd year), a cookie and her warm smile.  Elaine was a special woman and will be deeply missed by all.

Elaine is survived by her sons: Henry (Sherry) Zima, Ronald (Patty) Zima, Roger (Laure) Zima, Michael (Joni) Zima, John Jr. (Patty) Zima, and her daughter Juliana (Gary) Jasken; 20 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Zima, one grandson, Brady Zima, two brothers, Maynard and Delbert Dalve and two sisters, Beatrice Mertens and Lois Kunz.

The visitation for Elaine will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 5 to 7 PM at DAVID-DONEHOWER FUNERAL HOME (609 US HWY 10 E., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501).  A prayer service will close out the evening at 7 PM.  Visitation continues Friday, December 1, 2023, from 10 to 10:45 AM at MOST HOLY REDEEMER CATHOLIC CHURCH (106 Ontario St, Ogema, MN 56569).  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM with Fr. Greg Gallagher officiating.  Final rest will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Ogema.
