Charles Greene

Charles I. Greene, 81, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at St. Mary’s Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes. The Funeral Service for Charles will be10:00 AM Saturday, August 9 at St. Columba Episcopal Church in White Earth, MN. Interment will be held at St. Columba Episcopal Cemetery.




Visitation will be Friday, August 8 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.




Charles Iver Greene was born May 16, 1927 in Mahnomen, MN to Ole and Isabelle (Brisbois) Greene. He was raised in Mahnomen and received his education at the Catholic Church school in Mahnomen. In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Navy and from 1943 until 1947 had served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean War stationed in the South Pacific. Charles was honorably discharged in 1947. After the service he worked various jobs before starting a life-long career with Hartman’s in Detroit Lakes.  Charles married Dorothy Ruth Jackson in Detroit Lakes.   Dorothy passed away in 1991. Throughout his life Charles enjoyed harvesting wild rice, fishing, deer hunting, gardening and going to the casino. He loved his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will always remember him for his story telling and the time they spent together.




Charles will be remembered and deeply missed by his four sons, Charles “John” and his wife Phyllis of Moorhead, MN, Anthony Greene of Moorhead, MN, David Greene of Detroit Lakes, and Gary Greene also of Detroit Lakes; his five daughters, Marilyn Ericson of Detroit Lakes, Lillian Lamblez of Dilworth, MN, Pam Bellcourt of Detroit Lakes, Linda Hjelsand and her husband Barry of Frazee, MN and Wanda Greene of Detroit Lakes. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one sister; Isabel Carlin of Spring Park, MN.   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; one daughter, Debra Greene; one grandson, Cordell Bellcourt Jr.; brothers, Leo, Clarence, Rudolph, James, Harold, Gordon, Olaf and one infant brother; sisters, Dora Hoss, Alice Kobe, Ida Carlson, Carol Yerkes, Helen Bellecourt and Margaret Sargent.
