Candace Ann Olson

September 22, 1957 — April 29, 2025

Detroit Lakes

Candace Ann Olson, beloved sister, aunt, niece, and cousin died due to complications from COPD on April 29th, 2025, at the age of 67. She was at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, Minnesota under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Candy was born on September 22nd, 1957, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to loving parents Joyce (Courneya) and Irwin Olson. Born the 4th child in a family of 5, she was daddy's girl.

Candy grew up in Lake Park, Minnesota where she attended and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1975. She was proud of her senior year perfect attendance. In 1976, she graduated from Moorhead Technical College with a degree in Chefs Training and worked at the Tree Top Restaurant in Moorhead, Minnesota where she made lifelong friends.  In 1987, she decided to attend LPN training at Detroit Lakes Technical College. Later, she moved to San Francisco, lived with her brother Carey, and became a nurse at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. She was proud of her profession and content to have fulfilled her goal of being a nurse. In 1997, Candy was ready for another adventure, moved to Ocala, Florida, and built a comfortable house where family from the north often visited. In Ocala, she worked as a nurse at various care centers before retiring. In 2011, she moved back to Minnesota and enjoyed living in her apartment in Detroit Lakes. When her health declined she made her last journey to Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park.

Candy loved the water and should have been a mermaid! In High School she was a water safety instructor at Middle Cormorant Public Beach. She spent many summers swimming, fishing and water skiing at Lake 7, her favorite swimming hole near Vergas, Minnesota. When she moved to Florida she continued her love for water in the Atlantic Ocean, Daytona Beach was one of her many hangouts. Although, she quickly discovered that swimming in Florida's lakes was much different because of the "gators".

One of Candy's goals in life was to make people laugh. When anyone visited, she wanted them to laugh and tell her something humorous. Candy always reminded family and close friends in her personal letters and notes to remember the #1 rule: Have fun!

Candy is survived by her siblings Craig (Marcia) Olson, Cindy (Darwin) Hendrickson Frazee, Minnesota, and Chris (Susan) Olson Lake Park.

Candy is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Amber (Peter) Mead, Blake (Asuka) Hendrickson, and Christa Hendrickson; Casey (Tammy) Olson, Andrea (Andrew) Olson; Hailey Olson and Lauren Olson.

Her great nieces and nephews include Madison Mead, Devree Mead, Cedar Mead, Sakura Hendrickson, and Kai Hendrickson.

Candy also kept in contact with many cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents (Irwin and Joyce Olson), brother Carey Olson (2023), and infant daughter, Tiffany.
