Bruce Alan Wisted

Bruce was born on January 6th, 1947, to Morell and Beatrice Wisted (Olson) in Detroit Lakes, MN. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1965 and continued his education at Bemidji State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in mathematics, with a minor in music. He taught math to 8th grade and high school students for the next 7 years in Roseau, MN.

In 1979, Bruce and his brother, Ron, were introduced to the family business of Hardware Hank in Detroit Lakes. The brothers went on to purchase the business in 1986.

After many years of running a successful hardware store, the brothers dissolved the business in August of 2008. Shortly thereafter, Dave Karsnia asked Bruce to work at David-Donehower Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Bruce accepted and worked part-time with Dave on November 1st, 2008, alongside Merle Sagen. Bruce took care of maintenance for the firm and was on the road driving many transports. He enjoyed his 12 years while employed with the funeral home, until 2020 when COVID shut down many businesses or at least diminished the workforce.

Bruce's main hobbies were music, music, and more music. He played baritone sax in as many as 8 different bands throughout his lifetime; the most recent being with Lakes Community Bank, the Ullen Band (through parades), and Doc & The Scrubs. He had been a band director for Doc & The Scrubs and only recently relinquished his position due to health issues.

Bruce enjoyed retirement until he developed issues with his kidney function and started dialysis in November of 2024.

Bruce is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gail (Sidorow); brother, Ron; sister-in-law, Judy Wisted; cousins, Mary Waalen, David Wisted, Carolyn Osborne, Susan Campbell, Gregory Wisted; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Murray and Linda Sidorow; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death ny his parents, Morell and Beatrice Wisted (Olson); brother, Craid Wisted; and his sister, Janice Hartmann.

Bruce will be forever missed and fondly remembered by all who know and love him.
