Arne Aasland

Arne J. Aasland, 90,  Frazee, MN died Tuesday, April 16 at his residence.

Funeral Services for Arne will be held Wednesday, April 24 at 11AM in United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 23 at David Donehower Funeral Home from 5pm until 7pm.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday.   Interment will be held in the Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.

Arne James Aasland was born June 6, 1928 in Ada, MN to James and Anna (Kvamme) Aasland.   He graduated from Ada High School in 1946 and enlisted with the United States Navy where he trained as an Aerographer.   He was honorably discharged in 1948.   Arne worked for the United States Weather Bureau until 1952, when he returned to Ada to become manager of Bowyer’s Grocery Store.  In 1964, Arne was united in marriage to Margaret “Marge” Karlstad-Fauglid.  They both worked in the store and purchased it in 1968 renaming it Arne’s Fairway.  In 1973 they purchased a second store in Hillsboro, ND.  They retired from the grocery business in 1991.  Arne was active in many organizations in Ada over the years which included:  Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Hospital Board, City Council, Eagles, Elks, Lions, American Legion and VFW.   He also served as treasurer at Ada Methodist Church for many years.

Arne is survived by his four grandsons:  Steven Fauglid of Omaha, NE, Thomas (Tracy) Fauglid of Olathe, KS, Anthony (Tammy) Fauglid of Heron Lake, MN and Andrew Fauglid of Mapleton, ND.   He is also survived by two nephews and one niece:  Jim Aasland, Julie Aasland-Myers and Dave Aasland.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret, one brother, Tenny, step-sister, Cora, step-daughter, Margie and two step-sons:  Donald and Gerald.
