Richard Cyril Monroe was born December 15, 1930, in Knife Falls, Minnesota, the son of Robert and Lenore (Bergen) Monroe. He passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at his home on Net Lake near Ogema, Minnesota. He grew up in the White Earth area and attended school in Waubun. Dick traveled for a short time and worked construction building grain bins while in school.
Dick proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He served on the USS Latimer receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1955.
On April 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to Karen Grund at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, Minnesota. To this union six children were born. Dick began working for the Ford Motor Company as an inspector. After 30 years he retired and moved back to Ogema to spend time at Net Lake to be with friend and family.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time on the lake, and his passion was watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Dick is survived by his children: Kim (Roger) Welter of Kingman, Arizona; Becky (Dave Klughbertz) Hammers of Hamburg; Teresa Monroe of White Earth; Tom Monroe of White Earth; Chuck (Heidi) Monroe of Young America; grandchildren: Michael Giesen, Wendy Rusinyak, Chris Welter, Antone Hammers, Jesse Monroe, Brevin Monroe, Zander Monroe, Teague Monroe, Geoffrey Reed, Brittney Monroe, Dalton Monroe; seven great grandchildren; former wife: Karen Monroe of Glencoe; siblings: Ditty (Ross) Perrelet, Chig Monroe Cammisuli, Mitty Jackson, Larry Monroe, Jackie Monroe, Elizabeth “Betty” Guevara; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Lenore Monroe; son: Karl Jerome Monroe; siblings: Chinny Monroe, Jeep Monroe, Jerry Monroe Jr.
