Mary Lou King, 84, of Waubun, MN died Saturday, March 29 at St. Marys Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes, MN. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 2 at St. Columba Episcopal Church, White Earth, MN. Interment will be in the St. Columba Episcopal Cemetery, White Earth.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM Tuesday, April 1 with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at the David-Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.
Mary Lou Oskinowe was born May 1, 1923 in White Earth to William and Louise (King) Oskinowe. She attended boarding schools in Red Lake, MN and in White Earth. Mary Lou was united in marriage with Fred King on January 27, 1945 in White Earth. They made their home in White Earth, and they worked with seasonal traditional camps throughout Minnesota harvesting wild rice, pulping, logging and collecting maple syrup. She also worked for Swift Turkey Plant in Detroit Lakes, Green Thumb and for IHS in housekeeping. Fred died in July of 1977 and Mary Lou continued to make her home in the White Earth area.
Mary Lou was pillar of the St. Columba Episcopal Church and was very active in church activities; including being a part of the church newspaper and member of the Bishop committee. She was awarded Elder of the Year in 2003 by the MIEA. Mary Lou enjoyed visiting with people and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mary Lou is survived by five daughters, Emma Jean King of Ogema, MN, Mary Jo King, Gloria Louise King, Elizabeth Marie King, Betty Ann King all of White Earth; two sisters, Elizabeth Clark of White Earth and Gloria Goble of Waubun. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Richard, two brothers, two sisters and two grandsons.
