Leonard Hildebrand

Leonard W. Hildebrand, 90, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, February 5 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9 at Augustana Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in Augustana Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Tuesday at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Leonard Wesley Hildebrand was born December 1, 1920 in Mitchell, SD to Archie and Bessie (Kitto) Hildebrand. He moved with his family to Fargo, ND and later to rural Detroit Lakes, MN. He is a 1939 graduate of the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. Leonard was united in marriage to Edwedge "Eddie" Blom, October 10, 1943 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Following their marriage, they lived in Seattle, WA where they both worked building wings for B-17's at Boeing Aircraft. They returned to Detroit Lakes in 1944 where they lived on a farm near Mud Lake. In 1955, they purchased Eddie's parents home in Shorham, MN. Leonard drove truck for Fairway Foods out of Fargo, ND for thirty years. During that same time, he also worked part-time for Chester Johnson's Service Station on old Hwy 59 near Detroit Lakes. They moved into Detroit Lakes in 2005. Survivors include his wife: Eddie of Detroit Lakes; sons: Hap (Micky) of Springfield, MN, Byrne of Brainerd, MN, Peter of Detroit Lakes, MN; two grandchildren: Joshua Hildebrand and Megan Rosenfeldt; a step-granddaughter: Erika Seaquist; three great grandchildren: Zachary, Brianna and Makayla; two step-great grandchildren: Christian & Connor.; a brother: Don (Phyllis) of Sioux Falls, SD.
